2000, 3rd Edition, 144 pp. This Guide focuses on climbing areas around the sklyline blvd area South of highway 84 to Black road, including, Castle rock state park, Sanborn sklyline county park, Aquarian valley, and Stevens Creek Canyon. It provides an excellent geological history of the sandstone formations, ethics of the area and provides information on the draft plan for the parks in the area. It openly talks about areas closed to climbing including the possible repercussions. It is very thorough in covering the rating, gear and topo's for each climbing area. Nice job and thanks for all the hardwork.
Reviewers Opinion: This is clearly the best guide for Castle Rock State Park and surrounding areas. It provides reasonable trail maps, detailed topo's of all climbs, including heights, bolts & trad requirements. Some of the heights are a little off but most are very close and can be used for reliable estimates on route lengths. The author includes routes in climbing areas which are restricted, on private property or in illegal areas. Though he clearly states this, why include it if it will only promote trouble for climbers, as whole, in the future.
