London, 1993, 1st UK edition. 183 pp, 200+ b/w photos. Alfred Gregory was the official stills photographer on the expedition that made the first ascent of Everest in 1953. In this book, published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of that ascent, Gregory has chosen a superb selection of his black and white photographs which capture the most momentous, scintillating and historically important moments of the climb. Apart from spectacular landscape shots there are many photographs of the participants tackling the practical problems which stood between them and the summit. Many of the photographs in this book had never been published before.
Gregory was the still photographer on the Everest first ascent expedition. Although he did a book right after the first ascent, PICTURE OF EVEREST, many of his photos have been unpublished until now. DJ, New. Large format, extra postage for Priority Mail or International Mail.
