The author tells of his lifelong obsession with climbing, reflecting on his bigger misadventures, including his climb of Les Courtes in the Alps (1981) with Joe Simpson, well before Simpson would become famous for his 'Touching the Void.' The 'Simpson Incident' related at length here is another take on what Joe wrote about this incident in 'This Game of Ghosts.'
Simspon is a fantastically gifted author, but his personality and climbing skills do not equal his abilities that have made him wealthy and successful. The author, a health statistician, includes an important and useful chapter of results of a study of climbing accidents in Yosemite National Park in the 1980s. SIGNED by Hubert Allen.
