Account of the major scientific mountaineering expedition to the Carstensz Mtns of Irian Jaya (New Guinea) in 1936 led by Colijn. This was the first successful climbing trip to the peaks with 3 strong attempts on Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jayakesuma 4884m), 1st ascent of Ngga Pulu (4862m), and an ascent to just shy of the top of East Carstensz Top (Carstensz Timur ca 4800m). This is the major book on the Carstensz Mountains. Colijn, the author, was the leader of this expedition.
The book has lots of photos of the mountains when they still had big glaciers, and lots of photos of the colorful, indigenous people prior to wide exposure to the outside world. SIGNED by Heinrich Harrer .
