Seattle, 1960, 2nd Am edition. 210 pp, 23 plates. Story of the tragic Oxford University Expedition to Haramosh in the Karakoram in 1957.
The book tells the story of an expedition to Haramosh in the Himalaya by five mountaineers: Bernard Jilliott, Scott Hamilton (American), John Emery, Ray Culbert (New Zealand) and Tony Streather. They suffered avalanches, falling through a cornice, multiple other falls, loss of ice axes and crampons, severe frostbite and nights in the open. Not all of them survived: one sacrificing his own life to save others. This tale is every bit as astounding as 'Touching the Void'. Used Paperback, VG-Fine.
