Ang Phurba, who made a successful ascent of Everest in 1979, spent 15 years on the mountainous task of tracing the history of each Nepalese Everest summit climber. Sherpas, acclimatized to high altitudes through centuries of inhabiting the mountain regions, are internationally renowned for their climbing skills. Following short biographies of some of the leading Nepalese climbers such as Apa Sherpa, Kaji Sherpa, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Pertemba Sherpa, Babu Chhiri Sherpa, and others, there are brief pieces by Junko Tabei, Pete Athans, Chris Bonington, Eric Simonson, and others. The bulk of the book focuses on a collection of portraits and vital statistics of over 200 Nepalese Everest climbers.
