India and Tibet, published in 1910, is Younghusband's own account of genesis of his expedition, its nature and the consequences of repudiation of the Treaty concluded by him mission with Tibet. In addition, the book raises fascinating visions of what might have been, for Young husband believed that a precious opportunity had been irrevocably lost in 1904. The British military and political expedition which, under the command of Francis Younghusband, reached Lhasa, the capital of Tibet on 3rd August 1904 and formally entered the city on the following day, immediately became a major event in the history of European exploration and discovery.

 

For Lhasa, the forbidden city on The Roof of the World was perceived as one of the last undiscovered places on earth, an objective of truly polar importance. Younghusband's expedition had tremendous romantic appeal for his contemporaries and marked the culmination of Britain's attempts, over of period of 140 years, to establish ordinary neighborly intercourse with Tibet. The mission concluded a treaty with the Tibetans and secured the right of access to Lahaska for a British agent.
